The Many Influences of Plastic Surgery Costs

By Gregory McWhorton

The cost of plastic surgery depends on a number of factors. The primary factors that determine what a procedure will cost include but are not limited to the area of the body to be treated, the type of procedure, and the physical location of the surgeon. Typically, large parts of the body will cost more to treat than smaller parts. Some procedures are more difficult or labor intensive and can depend on the techniques employed. The plastic surgery market of the geographical region dictates the rates so clinics have to price accordingly.

Larger body areas will cost more than smaller areas. It might seem obvious but it is the effort and time required of the surgeon that patients are being charged.

The cost per treatment area can influence each other as well if they are to be combined into one session. It costs less in terms of effort to prepare and clean up to treat multiple areas. It is cheaper to do work on multiple areas in a single session to make the most of the efforts of setting up and preparing the patient for surgery.

There are many different plastic surgery procedures and each one will differ in cost from another. The procedures can be grouped by likeness since similar procedures will be priced similarly and are usually based on the complication of the technique involved.

Major surgeries that require sedation of the patient will cost more than procedures where local anesthesia is administered. The anesthesia charge is a big item in the total cost of plastic surgery and the amount of the drug used is not free. Higher doses not only cost more for the solution but also because the administration will require a certified anesthesiologist.

The surgeon fee is the price most often quoted and advertised since it is consistently an item across every type of plastic surgery procedure. There are many charges that the clinic will pass onto the patient in the form of various fees. The overhead charge for the use of the surgical equipment and room will be charged as a facility fee or hospital fee. Anesthesia will cost most patients approximately one thousand dollars. Different types of tools and equipment required will be included in the facility fee as well. - 31372
